Traffic Stops Lead to Firearm and Drug Arrests in Frederick
Frederick, MD – On Thursday, July 23, 2026, two separate traffic stops in Frederick resulted in significant arrests, including the recovery of an illegal firearm and multiple types of narcotics. These incidents underscore the commitment of local law enforcement to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
The first incident occurred early in the morning around 3:30 a.m., when deputies conducted a traffic stop near New Design Road and Corporate Drive. During the stop, they discovered a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number belonging to 16-year-old Daylen Barnes of Frederick. As a result, Barnes was charged as an adult and faces multiple charges, including possession of a handgun on his person, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and altering a firearm identification number. He is currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Later that same day, at approximately 11:10 a.m., deputies conducted another traffic stop on Key Parkway. With the assistance of a Frederick Police Department K-9 officer, the deputies performed a search of the vehicle after the K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. This search yielded four suspected fentanyl pills, suspected cocaine, around 55 grams of suspected PCP, and $836 in cash. The driver, 35-year-old Anthony Cartnail of Frederick, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances, including PCP and hallucinogens.
These arrests highlight the proactive measures taken by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement in combating illegal firearms and drug-related crimes. Authorities emphasize the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in maintaining safety and security in Frederick County.
