R.E.A.D.® with Wags for Hope: A Unique Opportunity for Young Readers
Frederick County, Maryland-The Urbana Regional Library invites local families to participate in an engaging and educational event, R.E.A.D.® with Wags for Hope, designed to enhance children’s reading skills. Set to take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 2 PM to 3 PM, this program offers a unique twist on literacy by allowing children in grades K-5 to read aloud to specially trained Reading Education Assistance Dogs.
This event is part of the library’s ongoing commitment to educational enjoyment, aiming to create a supportive environment for young readers. The presence of the Reading Education Assistance Dogs provides a non-judgmental and friendly audience, helping to build children’s confidence and fluency in reading. Participants will gather in the Programming Room at the Urbana Regional Library, a welcoming space designed for community events and learning opportunities.
Wags for Hope is renowned for its dedication to improving literacy through animal-assisted interventions. By reading to these affectionate dogs, children can experience the joy of storytelling without the pressure often associated with traditional reading environments. Research has shown that reading to animals can significantly improve a child’s reading ability and foster a love for books.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children for this enriching experience. For more information and to sign up, visit the Frederick County Library Calendar. This event represents a wonderful opportunity for families to engage in learning while enjoying the companionship of their furry friends, reinforcing the library’s mission to promote literacy and community engagement.
