The City of Frederick is inviting residents to participate in a unique opportunity to contribute to a time capsule as part of the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The capsule will be buried during the annual “In the Streets” festival on September 12 at 12:30 PM, right in front of City Hall. This event allows citizens to share their hopes and dreams for the future of Frederick, which will be sealed for the next 50 years.
Among the items to be included in the time capsule are postcards and reflections stemming from the public art exhibition titled Frederick’s Shared Future. This exhibition, presented by the City’s Art in City Hall Program, features USA 250 postcards and video responses from local residents, illustrating their visions for the city in 2076.
In the lead-up to the burial ceremony, community members are encouraged to complete a brief survey detailing their aspirations for Frederick’s future. Selected responses, along with the postcards, will be placed inside the capsule, representing a snapshot of community sentiment at this pivotal moment in history. The survey can be accessed online at frederickmd.gov/timecapsulesurvey, and residents are urged to submit their responses by August 31.
Residents are also invited to attend the time capsule ceremony on September 12 to witness this significant moment in Frederick’s history.
