Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off on October 10

Residents of Frederick County have the opportunity to responsibly dispose of hazardous waste at the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event on Saturday, October 10. The event, organized by the Frederick County Government’s Division of Solid Waste and Recycling, will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the upper-level parking lot of Keys Stadium, located at 21 Stadium Drive.

This semi-annual event is designed to help residents dispose of hazardous waste generated in their homes at no cost. According to the county, the previous spring event was the largest to date, where approximately 30 tons of paint and 19 tons of hazardous materials were collected, processing one vehicle every 15 seconds. Due to its growing popularity, the county is implementing a new traffic pattern for this October drop-off, featuring an updated entrance and improved traffic control to facilitate the flow of vehicles.

Residents are encouraged to arrive prepared with identification that shows their Frederick County residency and to familiarize themselves with the list of acceptable and unacceptable items for disposal. The county advises that lines may form, and potential wait times could exceed expectations. Additionally, walk-up participants will not be accepted, and attendees must remain in their vehicles until directed by staff. To avoid traffic delays, drivers are reminded not to enter Stadium Drive from New Design Road, as left-hand turns into the event will be prohibited.

For a complete list of items eligible for drop-off, residents can visit the Frederick County Government’s website. The Division of Solid Waste and Recycling provides integrated waste management services for the county, including waste reduction and recycling programs. For more information on this event and related services, residents can contact the division directly at 301-600-2960.

  1. I have to assume the prohibition on using New Design Road means not coming from the south as that will be a left turn. The only sensible route to me is New Design road from the east, making a right hand turn on Stadium Drive. Coming from Market street to Stadium Drive would also be a left turn, so that would not make sense.
