Traffic Stops Lead to Firearm and Drug Arrests in Frederick
Frederick County, Maryland – On July 23, 2026, local law enforcement officials made significant arrests during two separate traffic stops in Frederick, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illegal firearms and drug distribution in the community.
The first incident occurred early in the morning around 3:30 a.m., when deputies initiated a traffic stop near New Design Road and Corporate Drive. During the stop, 16-year-old Daylen Barnes of Frederick was found in possession of a loaded handgun, which had its serial number obliterated. As a result, Barnes, charged as an adult, faces multiple serious offenses including possession of a regulated firearm and illegal alteration of firearm identification. He is currently held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Later that same day, at approximately 11:10 a.m., deputies conducted another traffic stop on Key Parkway with the assistance of a K-9 officer. The K-9’s alert to the presence of narcotics prompted a thorough search of the vehicle, leading to the recovery of four suspected fentanyl pills, a quantity of suspected cocaine, around 55 grams of suspected PCP, and $836 in cash. Anthony Cartnail, 35, also of Frederick, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute various controlled substances.
These incidents underscore the commitment of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office to ensuring community safety by addressing illegal firearms and drug-related activities. Authorities continue to encourage residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior to help maintain the safety and security of the community.
