Traffic Stops Lead to Firearm and Drug Arrests in Frederick
Frederick, Maryland – Two separate traffic stops in Frederick on Thursday, July 23, 2026, resulted in significant arrests related to firearms and drugs, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to maintain community safety.
In the early hours of the day, at approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop near New Design Road and Corporate Drive. During the stop, they discovered a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number in the possession of 16-year-old Daylen Barnes from Frederick. Charged as an adult, Barnes faces multiple charges including possession of a handgun on his person, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and altering a firearm identification number. He is currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Later that same day, at around 11:10 a.m., deputies executed another traffic stop on Key Parkway, assisted by a Frederick Police Department K-9 officer. The K-9 indicated the presence of narcotics, leading to a thorough search of the vehicle. This search uncovered four suspected fentanyl pills, cocaine, approximately 55 grams of suspected PCP, $836 in cash, and two cell phones. Anthony Cartnail, 35, also from Frederick, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances.
These incidents underscore the commitment of local law enforcement to address illegal firearms and drug activities in the community.
