Traffic Stops Lead to Firearm and Drug Arrests in Frederick
Frederick, MD – On Thursday, July 23, 2026, two separate traffic stops resulted in significant arrests related to firearms and drug possession in Frederick County. These incidents underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to maintain public safety and curb illegal activities in the community.
In the early hours of the day, around 3:30 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of New Design Road and Corporate Drive. During the stop, they discovered a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number in the possession of 16-year-old Daylen Barnes, a resident of Frederick. Barnes, who has been charged as an adult, faces multiple serious charges, including possession of a regulated firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He is currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Later that same day, at approximately 11:10 a.m., another traffic stop on Key Parkway led to the arrest of 35-year-old Anthony Cartnail, also of Frederick. With the assistance of a K-9 officer, deputies discovered four suspected fentanyl pills, cocaine, approximately 55 grams of suspected PCP, and a substantial amount of cash totaling $836. Cartnail has been charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances and possession of narcotics.
