Frederick City and County Launch Public Dashboards to Track Community Climate and Energy Progress

Frederick City and County have launched two new online dashboards designed to track the community’s progress on climate and energy initiatives. These dashboards provide residents with a transparent view of the implementation of the Community-Wide Climate and Energy Action Plan (CEAP), which was developed collaboratively by city and county officials with support from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

The CEAP, created in 2025, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent from 2010 levels by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The initiative involved extensive public engagement, with over 500 participants in community meetings and more than 650 responses to surveys regarding climate impacts. The dashboards serve as centralized platforms where residents can monitor current projects and strategies related to transportation, energy, forestry, waste, and buildings.

City of Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor emphasized the importance of transparency, stating, “Setting goals is important, but so is showing our residents how we are working toward them.” Meanwhile, County Executive Jessica Fitzwater highlighted that while creating the CEAP was a significant step, it is crucial to actively implement the plan, allowing the community to follow progress and hold officials accountable.

The dashboards will be regularly updated with new data and will also be reflected in the City’s Sustainability Annual Report, providing additional opportunities for public engagement. Residents are encouraged to explore the dashboards to gain insights into ongoing efforts to mitigate climate-related impacts, such as flooding and extreme heat.
