County Executive Fitzwater Highlights Progress, Partnerships, and Priorities in State of the County

County Executive Jessica Fitzwater delivered her fourth State of the County address on October 21, 2026, outlining accomplishments from her first term and highlighting future priorities for Frederick County. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and residents, asserting that effective governance is built together rather than imposed from above. “At its best, government is not something that happens to people. It is something we build together,” Fitzwater stated during her address.

In her speech, Fitzwater highlighted several key areas of focus for the county, including investments in Frederick County Public Schools, expanding childcare access, addressing housing affordability, and supporting older residents. She also discussed the need for accessible transportation, strengthening public health and safety, and preparing students for future careers and public service.

Fitzwater announced the release of a Term Report, which tracks the implementation of recommendations from a community-led Transition Team. This report aims to provide transparency and accountability regarding the county’s progress. For those interested, the report is available on the Frederick County Government website.

The County Executive acknowledged ongoing uncertainties at the federal and state levels, which could impact local budgets and services. She reaffirmed her commitment to building partnerships and finding practical solutions to strengthen the county. “As a result, we’ve moved Frederick County forward and we’ve set the stage for even more progress in the years to come,” Fitzwater concluded.

The full address will be available for viewing on FCG TV and on the Frederick County Government’s YouTube channel, allowing residents to stay informed about the county’s initiatives and future direction.
