Mount Airy will come alive with Halloween festivities as the Town announces its annual Mount Scary celebration, featuring a series of exciting events on Saturday, October 24. Among the highlights are the Spooky Trail, a Halloween Costume Contest, and a Trunk or Treat, all designed to provide family-friendly thrills for residents of all ages.

The Spooky Trail kicks off the evening from 6 to 8 p.m., inviting attendees to embark on a .3-mile journey along Rails to Trails East. Participants can enter the trail at Watkins Park (615 Center St.) and will encounter various ghoulish characters as they make their way to the Railyard (3 N. Main St.). Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights to navigate the path safely in the dark.

Following the trail, the annual Halloween Costume Contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Railyard. Open to participants of all ages, the contest will feature multiple categories with ribbons awarded to winners. Residents are encouraged to showcase their creativity with costumes ranging from popular characters to unique creations.

Additionally, the Town has partnered with Twisted Rodz of Maryland to host a Trunk or Treat event starting at 6 p.m. in the Railyard, where children can collect candy from creatively decorated vehicle trunks. After enjoying the contest and trunk or treat, families can visit the Haunted CaBOOse at 2 N. Main St. for more Halloween fun. The beloved historic caboose will offer family-friendly thrills, and baked goods will be available for purchase from the Historical Society of Mount Airy, with donations accepted for entry.

Parking will not be available in the Railyard during the events. Attendees can park at Watkins Park, the Municipal Lot (1 Veterans Way), or along Main Street. Residents are urged to avoid parking in the Liquidity Aleworks parking lot. All events are free and open to the public, promising a spectacularly spooky experience for everyone involved.
