Aging and Independence Offers Medicare Part D Counseling Available Ahead of the Open Enrollment

FREDERICK, Md. – As the Medicare Open Enrollment period approaches, the Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence is offering early access to Medicare Part D intake forms. Beneficiaries can begin submitting these forms starting October 1 to secure an appointment with a trained State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Counselor. The Open Enrollment period is scheduled from October 15 to December 7, 2026.

Appointments with SHIP counselors will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and each participant is eligible for one appointment during the enrollment window. These counselors provide confidential and impartial guidance, assisting Medicare beneficiaries in understanding their options and making informed choices regarding their healthcare plans.

Residents interested in participating can download an intake packet or pick one up at any Frederick County 50+ Community Center. Completed forms can be returned by mail, email, fax, or in person at any 50+ Center. Additional details are available in the intake packet.

In addition to individual counseling, the SHIP program hosts monthly Medicare workshops aimed at helping participants navigate Medicare benefits, understand costs and coverage, and differentiate between Medigap/Supplemental Insurance and Medicare Advantage plans. These workshops are free, but registration is required. For more information about upcoming workshops, visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SHIP.

For further assistance, residents can call 301-600-1234 or email DAI@FrederickCountyMD.gov. The Division of Aging and Independence is committed to ensuring that Frederick County residents have the resources they need to make informed decisions about their Medicare coverage.
