Frederick City and County have unveiled two new online dashboards aimed at tracking the implementation of their Community-Wide Climate and Energy Action Plan (CEAP). This initiative allows residents to monitor progress towards a sustainable future by providing transparent access to data on climate and energy projects. The dashboards were developed through collaboration between city and county staff, with support from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
The CEAP, established in 2025, outlines strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and safeguard the quality of life in the region as it faces the challenges posed by climate change. The plan was shaped by significant community involvement, with over 500 participants in public meetings and workshops, as well as more than 650 responses to surveys regarding climate impacts.
The newly launched dashboards serve as centralized resources for tracking various climate strategies and projects. They detail the commitments made by the city and county to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent from 2010 levels by 2030, with a long-term goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The City of Frederick Mayor, Michael O’Connor, emphasized the importance of transparency in communicating progress, stating that the dashboard provides residents with a clear view of the ongoing efforts.
In addition to tracking city-specific projects, the county dashboard includes data on initiatives related to agriculture and other key areas such as transportation, energy, forestry, waste management, and building practices. County Executive Jessica Fitzwater pointed out that while creating the CEAP was a significant achievement, the real measure of success lies in the execution of the plan and the accountability it provides to the community.
Residents are encouraged to explore the dashboards to learn more about ongoing efforts to mitigate climate impacts such as flooding, drought, and extreme heat. The dashboards will be updated regularly with new data and will also be featured in the City’s Sustainability Annual Report, ensuring that the community remains informed about progress over time.
