FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick County Health Department has announced a Medication Disposal Event scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.” This event provides community members with a safe and convenient way to dispose of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs, as well as sharps such as syringes and needles.
The drive-through event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Frederick County Health Department, located at 350 Montevue Lane in Frederick. Residents are encouraged to participate and take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of their medications responsibly. However, it is important to note that the event is intended for residential disposal only and is not open to businesses, clinics, or medical facilities.
Participants may bring prescription and over-the-counter medicines in pill form, prescription patches, and pet medicines in pill form. The county advises that all sharps be separated from medications and that individuals bring an approximate count of sharps to be disposed of. While medications can be disposed of in their original containers, residents are encouraged to remove any identifying information from prescription labels.
