Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater officially inaugurated the newly renovated Pet and Adoption Center on Rosemont Avenue during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held today. This significant expansion of the Animal Control facility aims to enhance animal welfare and community engagement within the county.

“I am excited to be here today to cut the ribbon for this beautiful, long-awaited expansion for the Frederick County Animal Control Center,” said County Executive Fitzwater. “We are lucky to have the services provided by the incredible Animal Control team. This new facility reflects the professionalism and commitment to public service they have shown for many years.”

The upgraded center, which has expanded usable space by approximately 7,958 square feet, features modern dog and cat housing, a public lobby, and dedicated areas for animal care and education. Notable highlights include indoor/outdoor dog kennels, cage-free cat rooms, an expanded surgical suite, and a fenced astro-turf play yard, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for both animals and visitors.

The expansion project was funded through a combination of state support and private donations, significantly reducing the financial strain on local taxpayers. The State of Maryland contributed $1.1 million, with an additional $500,000 from the Division of Animal Control’s fundraising efforts. The total project cost is estimated at $8.9 million, with approximately 70 percent of the work completed, and full renovations expected by early 2027.
