FREDERICK, MD. – The Frederick County Agricultural Land Preservation Program has announced that it is now accepting applications for the Installment Purchase Program (IPP) easement program, with a deadline set for September 1, 2026. This initiative aims to purchase agricultural preservation easements that permanently restrict development on prime farmland and woodland, thereby safeguarding the region’s agricultural heritage.

This year’s program introduces an increase in easement values, reinforcing the County’s commitment to preserving agricultural land and supporting local farming operations. Notably, properties located within the County’s Priority Preservation Areas will now have the option to receive either a lump-sum payment or yearly installment payments, providing greater flexibility for landowners.

“The Installment Purchase Program has been a cornerstone of Frederick County’s farmland preservation efforts for more than two decades,” stated Katie Stevens, Director of the Frederick County Office of Agriculture. “With increased easement values and new payment options, we are making this successful program even more responsive to the needs of our agricultural community.”

Since its inception in 2002, the IPP has successfully preserved over 24,255 acres of farmland across 172 properties in Frederick County. In total, the various agricultural preservation programs managed by the Office of Agriculture have permanently preserved more than 78,066 acres of farmland, contributing significantly to the County’s agricultural landscape.

For detailed program requirements and the application, residents can visit the Office of Agriculture website. Interested applicants must submit their applications by Tuesday, September 1. For assistance, please contact Beth Ahalt at 240-549-2125 or via email at BAhalt1@FrederickCountyMD.gov.
