The City of Frederick is set to host its annual Harvest of Hope event on Wednesday, November 18, at Nymeo Field, where it will distribute 1,200 turkeys to eligible households in Frederick County. This initiative, organized by the City’s Department of Housing and Human Services in partnership with the Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland, aims to provide food assistance while connecting residents with local resources and services.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until supplies are exhausted. Eligible households can receive one turkey along with a selection of fall side dishes at no cost. The turkeys are being provided through the support of Wegmans, which has contributed significantly to the event’s success.
In addition to food distribution, Harvest of Hope will feature a resource fair, allowing residents to engage directly with local organizations and learn about various services and programs available to them. Mayor Michael O’Connor emphasized the event’s broader purpose, stating, “Harvest of Hope is about more than providing a meal. It is an opportunity to connect residents with resources, provide support and bring people together.”
To qualify for the turkey and side dishes, participants must be residents of Frederick County and provide proof of residency, such as a valid driver’s license or another form of identification. The distribution is limited to one turkey and side dishes per household and will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Accessible parking will be available for individuals needing accommodations.
For those interested in volunteering, registration is available on the City of Frederick’s website. More information about the Harvest of Hope event can also be found online.
