Health Department looking to contact owner of a dog

The Frederick County Health Department is seeking assistance from the public to locate a dog and its owner following an incident that occurred on October 1, 2026. A man was bitten by the dog around 8:00 p.m. during an altercation with a possibly unhoused individual on the sidewalk near Jubilee Foods in Emmitsburg.

The dog involved in the incident is described as a male Pitbull mix with brown and white coloring, wearing a blue harness. The owner of the dog is described as a man of average height and build, with dark hair, likely in his 30s. If anyone has information regarding this animal or its owner, they are urged to contact Frederick County Animal Control at 301-600-1544.

Once the owner is located, the dog will need to be verified by Animal Control to ensure it is in good health within ten days of the incident. This step is crucial as it may prevent the victim from needing expensive rabies treatment. If the owner cannot be contacted, the victim will be advised to seek appropriate medical treatment.
