Frederick County, Maryland – After four years of dedicated service to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, K9 Edy is retiring, marking the end of an era for the esteemed narcotics detection canine. Today, the community celebrates Edy’s contributions to public safety and wishes him a joyful and well-deserved retirement.
K9 Edy joined the Sheriff’s Office in August 2019, quickly establishing himself as an invaluable asset with a keen sense of smell and an unwavering commitment to his duties. In 2023, Edy further enhanced his skill set by completing patrol school, becoming a dual-purpose canine. This achievement allowed him to expand beyond narcotics detection to include obedience, agility, tracking, searches, and handler protection.
Throughout his service, K9 Edy has made a significant impact on the safety of Frederick County. He conducted an impressive 391 narcotics scans and assisted in 268 narcotics apprehensions, playing a crucial role in the seizure of illegal substances such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, as well as cash and 13 firearms. Additionally, he contributed to nine patrol apprehensions, always standing by his handler, Corporal Kocevar, with loyalty and enthusiasm.
As Edy transitions into retirement, he is expected to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle filled with treats, toys, and well-deserved rest. The community expresses its gratitude for Edy’s commitment to keeping Frederick County safe over the years.
