The City of Frederick has officially appointed Kevin Meyer as its new Chief of Police, as announced by Mayor Michael O’Connor. Meyer, who has been serving as the Interim Chief since December 2025, boasts over 18 years of experience with the Frederick Police Department, having held various roles throughout his tenure.
Meyer’s selection followed a thorough search process that included both a nationwide search and a committee composed of local community members. Mayor O’Connor expressed confidence in Meyer’s abilities, stating, “Kevin Meyer understands both this department and this community in a way that can only come from years of serving them.” He highlighted Meyer’s commitment to developing personnel, fostering relationships, and his capacity for thoughtful leadership as key factors in his appointment.
Throughout his extensive career, Meyer has demonstrated versatility and expertise in numerous capacities, including operational, investigative, supervisory, and command roles. His past positions include serving as a detective in the Drug Enforcement Unit, leading the Training Unit, and commanding the Support Services Division. Prior to his interim role, he was the Deputy Chief of the Operational Services Bureau, showcasing a robust background in law enforcement that positions him well for the chief role.
Meyer has played a substantial role in shaping training operations and recruitment initiatives within the department, as well as collaborating with external law enforcement agencies to enhance police training standards. His leadership is anticipated to further strengthen the bond between the Frederick Police Department and the local community.
