UCMR5 Data Availability 2024
The City of Frederick’s Water Quality Department has completed sampling for the 5th Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR5) as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We are pleased to inform our customers that these results are now accessible for review.
The UCMR5 mandates a comprehensive study every five years to assess 30 contaminants not currently regulated by the EPA, determining their prevalence in water supplies and potential need for regulation. The contaminants tested during this cycle include 29 PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) along with lithium. PFAS are commonly found in products like water-repellent clothing and firefighting foams. Due to their persistent nature in the environment and ability to accumulate in human bodies, the EPA has already determined, based on preliminary data collected ahead of the 2025 conclusion of the study, that PFAS require regulation in drinking water.
For detailed information about this regulatory rule, please visit the City’s Water Quality webpage at City of Frederick Water Quality Department. Our data tables indicate that current PFAS levels in Frederick are below the EPA’s maximum contaminant levels.
The City of Frederick remains dedicated to ensuring the provision of safe drinking water for all residents.
