FREDERICK, Md. – The Transportation Association of Maryland (TAM) recognized Transit Services of Frederick County with two major awards at their 2024 Annual Conference – Outstanding Transit System Achievement Award and Outstanding Transit Employee Award .
Transit Services was recognized for the organization’s efforts to significantly expand and improve service. Major achievements include expanding rural transit and adding Saturday service, implementing more effective administrative techniques, improving communications and marketing, and collaborating with riders, staff, and community partners to enhance the rider experience.
“I am proud of Transit for consistently working with our residents, community partners, and local businesses to improve service,” County Executive Jessica Fitzwater said. “Their embrace of innovation makes life better in Frederick County. These well-deserved awards are a testament to Transit’s ongoing commitment to reliability, customer service, and accessibility.”
The Outstanding Transit Employee Award went to Transit Services’ Data Management Analyst Steve Bladey for his exceptional work modernizing and supporting the agency’s technology infrastructure. Mr. Bladey was instrumental in upgrading systems to enable real-time vehicle tracking on all vehicles, allowing for better service delivery. He was praised for his technical expertise in troubleshooting problems, willingness to ensure systems function properly, and dedication to enabling other staff members to focus on their core duties, often performing his work behind the scenes.
“Skilled with people, vehicles, and technology, Steve’s contributions to this team are unmatched,” said Jaime McKay, Deputy Director. “Steve can complete any task given to him effectively, thoroughly, and with a healthy dose of humor. All of Frederick County benefits from Steve’s work.”
The TAM Awards are presented each year at the organization’s Annual Conference and honor the outstanding achievements of Maryland’s public transportation systems, nonprofit transportation organizations, professionals, and partners. Transit Services of Frederick County and Steve Bladey exemplify the innovation and hard work that keeps Maryland transit systems running strong.
