HHS Supports Homeless Residents Voting on Election Day – Frederick Pulse

The City of Frederick Department of Housing and Human Services (HHS) is committed to supporting all residents in exercising their right to vote. On Tuesday, November 5th, HHS will provide transportation to polling stations for homeless residents, ensuring they have the opportunity to participate in this year’s election.

“The City of Frederick’s slogan is ‘Join the Story,’ and we are showing that this is more than a tagline, it’s a core value of our City,” said Mayor Michael O’Connor. “We are not just facilitating access to the polls; we are reaffirming our commitment to inclusivity and democracy, and I am proud of HHS’s commitment to ensuring those facing homelessness have the supports needed to exercise their civic rights.”

Transportation will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., from HHS (100 S. Market Street) to polling stations in Frederick County. Residents interested in signing up for this service can do so in advance by visiting the HHS office at 100 S. Market Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701, or by calling (301) 600-1506. Walk-in transportation requests are also welcome on Election Day.

“Ensuring that all residents have access to vote, regardless of housing status, is a fundamental part of our mission at Housing and Human Services,” said Michele Ott, Interim Director of Housing and Human Services. “Our department is committed to providing support and resources to make sure our homeless residents can participate fully in this important civic process. Whether through information on polling locations, access to identification, or transportation assistance, we stand by our community members in exercising their right to vote and having their voices heard.”
