Frederick Running Festival Returns May 4 – Expect Road Closures, Delays, and a New Race Route – Frederick Pulse

The City of Frederick will welcome thousands of runners and visitors during the annual Frederick Running Festival, taking place the weekend of May 3–4, 2025. As always, the event is expected to bring significant traffic impacts, rolling road closures, and limited access to several major roadways—particularly on Sunday, May 4, when the Half Marathon and Team Relay kick off at 7:00 a.m.

NEW THIS YEAR

Due to ongoing construction along Monroe Avenue, the half marathon route has been modified from previous years. Additionally, the 5K race on Saturday, May 3, at 6:00 p.m. will follow a completely new course. Residents in impacted areas are encouraged to plan ahead and check the new course details at www.frederickrunfest.com.

Road Closures & Traffic Impacts

The Frederick Police Department, in coordination with the City’s Department of Public Works and race organizers, will implement rolling road closures throughout the city between 6:30 a.m. and approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Traffic delays and congestion are expected along the race route, which includes sections of East Patrick Street, Market Street, 5th Street, Bentz Street, Carroll Parkway, Rosemont Avenue, Hood College Drive, Trail Avenue, and Schifferstadt Boulevard.

To ensure the safety of runners, certain intersections and streets will be temporarily inaccessible to vehicular traffic as runners pass through. Streets will reopen on a rolling basis once runners have cleared the area.

A complete list of turn-by-turn directions for both the Half Marathon and 5K routes is available at www.frederickrunfest.com.

Parking Restrictions and Towing

Please pay close attention to temporary “No Parking” signs posted in designated areas along the race route. Vehicles parked in violation of event-day restrictions may be towed. Residents are strongly urged to move their vehicles from the course before the start of road closures to avoid disruptions.

Tips for Residents and Visitors

Avoid travel near the race route during peak race hours (6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.).

Use alternate routes to bypass congestion around Downtown Frederick.

If you live or work along the route, please plan accordingly and notify any guests or service providers in advance.
