On October 29, 2024, members of the Frederick Police Department’s Tactical Investigations Unit (TIU), in collaboration with the Special Response Team (SRT) and partner agencies, executed a search warrant at the apartment of Leonard Anthony Morris, a resident of Frederick City. The warrant was obtained by Detective Patrick Spevak following a thorough investigation into Morris’s alleged involvement in the distribution of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) and illegal firearms activity.
During the search, law enforcement officials recovered the following items:

Subsequent checks revealed that one of the firearms, a tactical .22 long rifle, had been reported stolen in Baltimore County on April 3, 2024.
Leonard Anthony Morris, who is currently on probation until 2028 due to a felony conviction in 2022 for possession with intent to distribute CDS and minor in possession of a handgun, was arrested and is facing multiple charges related to illegal firearm possession and drug offenses. Morris is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.

This investigation was a coordinated effort between the Frederick Police Department, United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the Frederick County States Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Brunswick Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN). The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy provides grant funding and strategic support to MCIN member sites to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through inter-agency collaboration and data sharing to make Maryland safer.
