FREDERICK, Md. – The Division of Public Works, Traffic and Permit Section, announced today that changes to traffic control at the intersection of Pinehurst Drive and Boyers Mill Road are scheduled for January 13, 2025. Currently, there is a stop sign at Pinehurst Drive and free flow traffic control for Boyers Mill Road. On January 13, 2025, all three legs of the intersection will be controlled by portable traffic signals to manage traffic flow through the intersection.
The portable traffic signals are considered necessary to address limited sight distance and the existing 12% grade along Boyers Mill Road which is not sufficient for observed vehicle speeds and driver decision making. Improving sight distance is not possible due to visual obstructions located outside of the road right-of-way area and 12% grade observed for Boyers Mill Road. The new signals will provide traffic control to improve conditions for Pinehurst residents entering Boyers Mill Road.
