Frederick County officials and community partners celebrated the opening of the new Robert H. Renneberger Carriage Museum at Rose Hill Manor Park & Museums with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 16. The facility, which spans 6,000 square feet, is designed to house more than 26 historic carriages, sleighs, and wagons, providing a modern space to preserve and showcase the county’s transportation history.
County Executive Jessica Fitzwater emphasized the importance of the new museum, stating that it represents a significant investment in preserving the historical narratives of Frederick County. The new facility replaces the original carriage museum that opened in 1976 and features enhanced climate controls aimed at better preserving the collection for future generations.
The new museum not only offers expanded exhibit space but also enhances educational opportunities for visitors. Kari Saavedra, Recreation Manager for Frederick County Parks & Recreation, noted that the facility allows for a more comprehensive exploration of transportation history, connecting visitors to the past lives and experiences of those associated with Rose Hill Manor.
This project received funding from both the State Capital Budget and the Frederick County Capital Budget. Its completion aligns with the 50th anniversary of the carriage collection and the broader commemoration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees were invited to tour the new museum and view its historic collection.
