According to the Sheriff’s Office, scammers are calling residents and claiming that they have missed jury duty, instructing them to call a specific number to resolve the issue. Victims who return the call are met with a voice that claims to represent the Sheriff’s Office, and the caller ID may even display a number that appears to be connected to the agency. However, officials have clarified that these calls are fraudulent.
The FCSO emphasizes that it does not make calls demanding payment or threatening arrest related to missed jury duty. Furthermore, the agency does not request personal information in this manner over the phone. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any such calls to the authorities.
In light of the ongoing scam, the Sheriff’s Office advises anyone receiving these calls to refrain from providing any personal information. Instead, they recommend hanging up immediately and not returning the call. Community members are encouraged to share this information with family and friends, particularly those who may be more susceptible to falling victim to scams.
