FREDERICK, Md. – In recognition of National Preparedness Month, the Frederick County Division of Emergency Management has launched “Make the Right Call,” an innovative public education campaign aimed at empowering residents to prepare for emergencies through realistic and actionable steps. This initiative seeks to reshape the dialogue around preparedness, moving away from generic advice to a more personalized approach that considers the diverse circumstances of local families.
“Our conversations about emergency preparedness need to start with where people are and recognize that preparedness looks different for every person and every household,” stated Anthony Rosano, Director of Emergency Management. The campaign addresses the challenges many residents face, such as financial constraints, which can make traditional preparedness suggestions, like building an emergency kit, feel unattainable. Instead, the focus is on integrating preparedness into everyday life in a meaningful way.
The core message of this year’s campaign is straightforward: knowing the right number to call can connect you with the help you need. Rosano emphasized the importance of understanding when to dial 9-1-1 for emergencies and how to seek assistance for urgent but non-life-threatening situations. This knowledge is vital for enhancing public safety and community resilience.
As part of this ongoing effort, the Division of Emergency Management plans to unveil new educational campaigns each September, coinciding with National Preparedness Month.
