Frederick County, Maryland – In a commendable display of courage and professionalism, two deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) were awarded the EMS Excellence Award by Frederick County Fire & Rescue this week. This recognition honors their lifesaving efforts during a critical cardiac arrest response that took place in November 2025.
Upon arriving at the scene of the emergency, FCSO deputies immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before the Fire and Rescue personnel arrived. Their rapid response, coupled with effective coordination with the Fire and Rescue team and an Emergency Communications Specialist, facilitated a seamless continuation of lifesaving care. This teamwork included advanced resuscitation efforts and essential post-resuscitation care, which proved pivotal in the patient’s survival.
Thanks to the swift actions and professionalism of Sgt. Smith and Deputy Reynolds, the individual in distress not only survived but was also discharged home neurologically intact. This outcome underscores the vital role that first responders play in our community, demonstrating the importance of training, readiness, and collaboration in emergency situations.
As local residents, we can take pride in the dedication and skill exhibited by our law enforcement and emergency service personnel. Congratulations to Sgt. Smith, Deputy Reynolds, and all of the recipients of the EMS Excellence Award on this well-deserved recognition for their extraordinary service to the Frederick County community.
