Traffic Stops Lead to Firearm and Drug Arrests in Frederick
Frederick, MD – In a series of traffic stops on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Frederick County deputies made significant arrests related to firearms and drug offenses, underscoring ongoing efforts to maintain public safety in the community.
Early in the morning at approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle at the intersection of New Design Road and Corporate Drive. During the stop, they discovered a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number in the possession of 16-year-old Daylen Barnes from Frederick. Charged as an adult, Barnes faces multiple offenses, including illegal possession of a regulated firearm and altering a firearm identification number. He is currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Later that day, around 11:10 a.m., deputies conducted another traffic stop on Key Parkway, which involved a K-9 officer from the Frederick Police Department. The K-9 alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle. Authorities recovered four suspected fentanyl pills, suspected cocaine, approximately 55 grams of suspected PCP, $836 in cash, and two cellular phones. The driver, 35-year-old Anthony Cartnail of Frederick, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances.
