The City of Frederick is set to participate in a nationwide reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 2026, marking a significant moment in history as the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration’s first public reading. This community event, titled “Sharing the Spirit of America,” will be held on the steps of Frederick City Hall, located at 101 N. Court St., inviting residents to come together and celebrate this pivotal moment in American history.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., attendees will gather for opening remarks, followed by the reading of the Declaration at 6 p.m. The event is organized in collaboration with the Frederick County U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission and is part of a larger initiative led by the Hawaii America250 Commission, which has garnered participation from 744 locations across all 50 states and territories, as well as overseas. This nationwide gathering aims to connect communities and foster a sense of unity as they reflect on the words that established the United States.
The “Sharing the Spirit of America” event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided, and no RSVP is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, the reading will take place inside City Hall, ensuring that everyone can partake in this historic occasion.
As Frederick joins this nationwide moment, residents are encouraged to participate and engage with their neighbors. The goal of this event is to bring the community together to honor the Declaration of Independence and the values it represents.
